Anish Kapoor India, 1954

Red, of course, is the colour of the interior of our bodies. In a way it's inside out, red.

-Anish Kapoor

The dimensional presence of Anish Kapoor's untitled triptych defies its intimate scale as a work on paper. Forms emerge from the darkness in the images to conjure the theme of the void often found in his sculptures and installations. They mesmerize the eye as the geometric yet organic shapes seem to recede, hover, and float. The red pigment in the etchings is also a familiar element of Kapoor's art, the corporeal and visceral saturation further animating the two-dimensional medium.

Anish Kapoor is known primarily as a sculptor of monumental works which are filled with movement. That sensation is realized visually in the use of reflective, curved materials and literally with swirling water or devices hurling red pigmented wax. The scope of his work links cutting edge feats of engineering with a primordial visual language, transcending time and cultures to bring the viewer to a contemplative place with the art and surroundings.
