Well before a choreographer begins work with dancers, there is an idea in shape and form—often some kind of a sketch or series of instructions for eliciting movement. For some choreographers, these can be elaborate and structured; some are a flurry of shapes and lines; others are collages of inspiration, thoughts and instructions. The score is a side of choreographic practice that a public rarely sees—a precursor to the living staged work of dance. CAP UCLA is commissioning 26 choreographers to create a dance score for a future project while they await their return to the studio and stage: each one a love letter to the future of dance.

Each score will become a fine art limited edition print, sales of which will further benefit each choreographer and support the future of live dance performances at CAP UCLA.
